PURPOSE:To attain a flat voltage over the whole time of use by adjusting the thickness of the upper part of a porous layer of metal silver that is formed on the surface of a positive plate of silver chloride to be thin and that of the lower part of it to be thick. CONSTITUTION:A positive plate 1 of silver chloride is dipped in in a vessel 3 in which a reducing liquid 2 is contained so that 2/3 (for example) of the plate is dipped under water before the whole plate 1 is immersed in a vessel containing enough reducing liquid, thereby forming a porous layer of metal silver whose upper part is thin and the lower part is thick on the surface of the plate 1. With this electrode plate, the upper part of the plate where there is a small resistance against sea water will have a large internal resistance because of the thickness of the silver layer, while the lower part of the plate where there is a large resistance against sea water will have a small internal resistance because of the thickness of the silver layer. On account of this, it is possible to change the reaction rate in each part of the electrode plate in accordance with the stages of the electric discharge, and subsequently to generate a flat voltage through the equalized reaction over the plate. |
