Shuttle embroidering machines, which are used for the production of multi-colour embroideries, usually have displaceable needle carriers which can be actuated or put out of operation by means of corresponding levers and control elements. The borers for making holes in the embroidery ground are fastened to a common boring rule. Depending on whether it is necessary to use the borers, these have to be inserted or removed. In the version according to the invention, both the needles and the borers are held by separately displaceable needle carriers (2) and borer carriers (3), the needle carriers (2) or borer carriers (3) being actuable in a controllable selection from a common single drive element (6) via levers (4, 5) engaging on the ends of the needle carriers (2) and of the borer carriers (3). <IMAGE>
