The unit comprises a front plate (7) equipped with means for removable fixing on the wall of the boiler, a combustion chamber (10) connected to this front plate opposite an opening (9) formed in the latter, a plurality of tubes (12), each in the general form of a U having a short arm (12a) fixed on the end wall (11) of the combustion chamber (10) and a long arm (12b) fixed on the front plate (7), a burner (8) supported by the front plate (7) opposite the opening (9) of the latter, and a collector (13) supported by this plate opposite the ends of the long arms (12b) of the tubes (12). According to the invention, this construction unit is introduced into the boiler through an orifice (4) of oval cross-section, and the tubes (12) are arranged in a bank in the general form of a U so that the long arms (12b) are grouped laterally on one side of the combustion chamber (10) and the short arms (12a) are grouped at the rear of and in alignment with this chamber (10). <IMAGE>
