The density monitor is for a reproduction camera and has a hand-held mounting with a focussing lens system (3) and a photocell (3). The device is moved over the original and provides direct readings of the density at different points. The device operates with a variable input angle for different types of image. The angle of the monitor is adjusted by an aperture (5) in front of the photocell, as well as adjustable gray scale filters. The photocell can be linked to a photomultiplier to cater for very dense masters. A simple optical aiming viewer is fitted to the top of the monitor.
