Light construction bicycle hub - has plastics body with metal insert bearing shells and press-on spoke supports

The lightweight bicycle hub has a central hollow section (10) made of moulded plastics material, open at each end and fitted with insert metal bearing shells (15). The other half of the bearing races is formed on the axle support (19) and the races are closed off by metal pressings (12) over each end, with the pressings serving as spoke supports. The hub is made from few and simple components at low cost. The spoke supports are seated on the outside of the moulded hub using a knurled surface. They are made undersize to grip on the mouldings, while the bearing insert shells are made oversize.
