Kanamycin tannate - useful as antibacterial agent with antidiarrhoeal activity

Kanamycin tannate of formula (I) is new. In (I) R is 3-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)-4,5-dihydroxybenzoyl. (I) is an antibacterial agent esp. useful for treating gastrointestinal infections. It combines the high antibacterial activity of kanamycin with the antidiarrhoeal properties of tannic acid and has very low toxicity (no toxic effects at doses up to 12 g/kg in rats.
