A machine tool system liquid settling tank (10) has a drag conveyor (15) which is partly immersed and which slopes upwardly to a discharge location (16) above the maximum liquid level (23). An aerator (28) is provided at a location spaced from the discharge location (16). An oil skimmer (31) is provided between the aearator (28) and the drag conveyor discharge location (16). A pump (24) is provided for drawing liuqid from the foot of the sloping drag conveyor portion and feeding it to the aerator (28) in which it is aerated outside the tank (10) and from which it is returned, in its aerated condition, to the tank (10) and directed towards the oil skimmer (31) and the drag conveyor (15). The pump (24) the drag conveyor (15) and the oil skimmer (31) are driven after the machine system is shut down.
