Secondary alkanesulphonates derived from straight-chain paraffin hydrocarbons with 10 to 21 C atoms are mixed with liquid or solid animal feedstuff or with pharmaceutical auxiliaries and additives and, where appropriate, converted into a form suitable for oral administration. The addition of alkanesulphonates to the animal feed considerably prolongs the life of the animals.
