PURPOSE:To obtain a stable beam shaping element independent of optical characteristics due to disturbance such as the dispersion of the elements and temperature change by shaping beams in accordance with a projection pattern from an optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:When beams projected from a semiconductor laser chip 12 is made incident on a converging part 17, the field distribution of the beams is deflected to the surface of crystal. Since the distribution of refractive indexes is uniform also in the (y) direction, the beams are expanded in accordance with their advance while keeping the pattern of the incident beams. Thereby, the beams expanded in the (y) direction are converted with a lens 14 arranged in the converging part and having a high refractive index only in the (y) direction and made incident on the optical waveguide 15. The optical waveguide 15 transmits the incident beams, converts them into circular beams and projects the circular beams from an output end. Consequently, always stable alignment can be held and the element resisting peripheral disturbance such as heat and vibration can be obtained. |
