Safety catch for aircraft launched missile - has safety pin sheared by cable unwinding to unscrew nut to engage shearing cam

The safety catch forms part of the missile and comprises a spool (19) storing a predetermined length (17,18) of cable. One end of this is fixed (15) to the aircraft,itsother end rotating the spool on launching the missile. This unscrews a nut (22) down a spindle (23,24). This runs into a cam (3) and a projection (25) on the nut enters an annular recess (8), up to a stop (9). This projection, together with a spring (28), exerts pressure on the cam and causes a safety pin (7) to shear and arm the missile. The cable then breaks.
