The self-closing claw contact is for use with grounding and short circuiting links to overhead power cables. It consists of a fixed body (2) and a moving jaw (13) guided by four contact with the body. The cable is wedged between the body and the jaw. The greater the pull on the body the greater is the compression of the jaw on the cable. A stub at the base of the body may be connected to an insulating pole. The jaw is hook shaped with an extended neck acting against the insulated rod and a bell shaped tip where the cable is gripped. The jaw slides between two lugs in the body in a slotted window parallel to the front face of the body.
