Fresh air inlet for domestic fireplace - has control ducting to vary quantity and direction

The fireplace has an air inlet duct through which fresh air flows into a distributor. The distributor consists of a cylindrical casing provided with directional outlet slots. An inner cylinder is located in the distributor. This cylinder is provided two diametrically opposite slots and a larger slot along its bottom edge. The inner cylinder can be oscillated by a manual control so that one of the upper slots corresponds to one of the outlet slots in the outer casing. Fresh air is thus admitted through the base slot and into the room via the two corresponding slots. Air can be directed to serve as a screen across the fireplace or accelerate the combustion of the fuel.
