The invention relates to a tarpaulin fitting/removal device for a transport vehicle equipped with a rigid structure which is covered by means of tarpaulins, comprising means for winding and unwinding, about a horizontal spindle, at least one of the tarpaulins constituting one of the vertical walls of the said transport vehicle. This tarpaulin fitting/removal device is characterised by the fact that it includes means (29, 30, 30A, 31) for vertically and horizontally tensioning the said tarpaulin (4) forming the sidewall (14) of the transport vehicle (2), these tensioning means (29, 30, 30A, 31) being manoeuvrable from the lower part of the vehicle and furthermore constituting means capable of fixing the said tarpaulin (4) over the entire height of its front (24) and rear (32) vertical edges and over the entire length of its lower horizontal edge (33), onto the said rigid structure (6). This invention relates to industries specialised in the manufacture of bodywork for transport vehicles as well as the manufacture of tarpaulins for such vehicles. <IMAGE>
