1457397 User verification OMRON TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO 27 Feb 1975 [7 March 1974] 8274/75 Heading G4H A system for checking the user of a card having recorded thereon coded information including at least a first and a second code, comprises : means for reading the codes; means for receiving at least the first code read by the reading means to produce a third code; means operated by the user to enter a card owner code; means for receiving at least the second and third codes and the card owner code to check correspondence between the codes; and means for changing the first and second codes. In a first embodiment, the card carries the number n of times the card will have been used just after the next use, and an auxiliary card number equal to a card owner number minus the sum of the squares of the integers from 1 to n. The use number n is used to obtain (n+ 1), its square, and the sum of squares mentioned, by addressing a stored table or using function generators. The sum of squares is added to the auxiliary card number and the result is compared with the card owner number entered on a keyboard, cash being dispensed (or &c.) on equality provided a check using a bank number, account number and balance of account information also read from the card and the requested amount entered on the keyboard is satisfactory. The square of (n+1) is subtracted from the auxiliary card number, the result and (n+1) being recorded on the card as the new values of the auxiliary card number and the use number. On the other hand, if the comparison or check is not satisfactory, the card is returned to the user. A second embodiment uses a sum of random numbers in place of the sum of squares, and the use number is stored on the card in alphabetic form with conversion to and from a number for use in the system. Excess use can be prevented using the use number. Date or time can be used instead of the use number. |
