The filter press contains a set of chamber-forming filter plates (3), of which each has a frame (4) which is furnished with an impermeable continuous partition and a permeable partition (6) each. Between each two filter plates runs a closed, elastic fabric filter belt (10) which is stretched by reversing rolls (9) and the two strands (10a, 10b) of which lie against the same side of the permeable partition (6) of one assigned filter plate. An apparatus for displacing the filter belt has two rails (18), which are arranged along the set of filter plates (3) on two opposite sides of the same and are furnished with a drive for their simultaneous reciprocal parallel displacement transversely to the set of filter plates (3). Strips (22), which are attached to one of the strands (10b) of each of the closed belts (10) transversely to this, interact with the rails (18) in such a way that they slide by their ends along the rails (18) and can be displaced together with the rails (18). The filter cake formed on the belts (10) can be discharged by parallel displacement of the rails (18). <IMAGE>
