PURPOSE:To obtain the above material which can give an optical fiber cable of excellent durability and can prevent metallic ion-containing water from penetrating into an optical fiber cable, by dispersing a specified water-absorptive polymer in a solution of a water-absorptive polyethylene oxide polymer in an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:An organic solvent-soluble and water-insoluble water-absorptive polyethylene oxide polymer (A) is obtained by reacting water-soluble polyalkylene oxide polyol (a) of an average MW >=4,000, having at least two OH groups with at least one compound (b) of a melting or softening point >=80 deg.C (e.g., pentaerythritol or aminophenol) selected from among a compound having at least two OH groups, a compound having at least two OH groups and a ring structure in the molecule, a compound having at least two NH2 groups and a compound having one OH group and one NH2 group and a polyisocyanate compound (c). A water-absorptive polymer (B) containing, e.g., at least 50wt.% acrylamide and having a water absorptivity >=5 for artificial seawater and a particle diameter <=200mu is dispersed in a solution of component A in an organic solvent. |
