<p>A method of fabricating essentially fully densified .beta.-silicon nitride articles by placing .alpha.-silicon nitride in a mold, heating the .alpha.-silicon nitride to a temperature sufficient to bring about conversion to silken nitride, applying a small but insufficient amount of pressure to cause full densification, holding these temperature and pressure conditions until essentially all of the .alpha.-silicon nitride has been converted to the .beta. form, and finally, increasing the temperature and pressure sufficiently to bring about full densification of the .beta.-silicon nitride.</p> |
