<p>The present invention provides a process for the continuous treatment of wet sludge from a sewage treatment plant, characterized in that the wet sludge, prior to entering a wet sludge aeration vessel, is dewatered by a dewatering means to a water content of 90% maximum; and that the sludge thus dewatered is circulated in the wet sludge aeration vessel and concurrently aerated with an oxygen-containing gas or with pure oxygen, in such a manner that temperatures ranging from 40 to 80.degree.C are developed in the sludge by the biological conversion process; and that concurrently also the sludge circulating in the wet sludge aeration vessel is brought into contact with a heat exchanger for the purpose of regulating to the said temperature; and that, after a certain time of residence, the sludge thus treated is removed from the wet sludge aeration vessel and, while still warm, is further dewatered to a water content of 80 to 50%.</p> |
