The drive converts rotation into linear displacement, to raise or lower an automobile window. It has a scissor frame (2,3) driven by a pinion (17) and gear wheel (16). It adapts for right or left hand installation by inversion. The pinion enmeshes with a segment which is fixed to one end of an input arm (2), and a fixed mounting plate (12) locates both the pinion axle (17) and the arm fulcrum (15). A roller (9) in a fixed horizontal track locates the horizontally opposed end of the output arm (3) with the other arm ends (4A) located by rollers in tracks on the foot of the window glass (5). The maximum vertical travel (22) of the window exceeds that (25) required for an installed window.
