A device taking bedrock samples from the sea bed of deep bodies of water, for the purpose of geological, hydrographic and oceanological research, consists of a float with a cylindrical working member, containing a shell which is fractured by the impact with the sea bed. The excessive hydrostatic pressure injects a sample into the open bottom end of the working member which is shut by elastic flaps. At the same time, several containers with ballast are jettisoned and the device rises to the water surface where the sample is extracted.
