Tile-faced blocks are made by sticking tiles, or stones, by their face temporarily to the inner walls of a mould and then overlaying the rear of the the tiles with resin-impregnated glass fibre mat. The adhesive must be incompatible with the resin, pref. is a water-soluble 'black' soap. Claims blocks made using 400 g/sq.m mat impregnated with polyester resin, to produce blocks which are lighter and tougher than conventional tile-faced brick or concrete blocks for use as sinks, troughs, stairways, worktops etc. Opt. the gaps between the tiles are sealed, during casting, by a silicone mastic, and subsequently masked by a grout of grains 2-3mm across bonded by phenolic resin.
|
