A radar warning unit is installed in the aircraft, and records the position and type of anti-aircraft units on the ground beneath its path towards a target, where the units also use radar. The areas of effect of the units are assessed, taking account of the aircraft relative position, course and speed. An optimal path for the aircraft is determined from such areas of effect, and the requisite manoeuvres are enacted by the pilot to bring the course of the plane to coincide with the determined optimal path. The manoeuvres are put into effect on an ongoing basis to ensure the best use of the optimal path. The manoeuvres are indicated in the sight line indicator of the aircraft, pref. in the form of an arrow, the direction of which indicates the changed path to be followed. The lateral position of the arrow in relation to the central vertical line of the sight line indicator is a dimension of the actual available margin for the manoeuvre. |
