PURPOSE:To obtain a carrier for catalyst having high specific surface area and excellent strength to breakage by adding a zirconium salt solution, an organic molding assistant and water to zirconium oxide powder, kneading them and extruding the kneaded material into a honeycomb molded body, then drying and calcining it at a specific temp.. CONSTITUTION:The zirconium salt solution (e.g. zirconium nitrate), the organic molding assistant (e.g. calboxylated derivative) and water are added to the zirconium oxide powder having >=80m<2>/g specific surface area and they are kneaded and the kneaded material is extruded into the honeycomb molded body, is dried and then is calcined at 500-800 deg.C. In this case, the adding amount of the zirconium salt solution is controlled to 5-20wt.% in terms of ZrO2. As a result, the carrier for catalyst having high specific surface area of >=50m<2>/g and practically usable strength to breakage and hardly containing impurities is obtained. |
