The head of a centre bit is provided with a coaxial hole into which interchangeable tips may be mounted. The tip is clamped by a transverse bolt and located for depth by a combination of a land and a radial stop such as a spring-loaded ball. Allows the head to be readily adapted for optimum cutting if used for initial penetration of a variety of different materials such as wood, blockboard, plastic sheet, laminates, aluminium, rigid PVC etc.
