A forming leveller establishes one or more datum or reference planes (227, 226, Figs. 7, 9 and 10, for example) to facilitate subsequent roll forming. The reference planes may be established on the same side or opposite sides of the stock with lateral gap (105) to facilitate transition forming. The leveller includes top and bottom closely spaced roll sets (90, 92 and 95, 97 and 98, respectively) forming multiple passes mounted on bottom and top frames (42 and 55) respectively, with floating rolls (90, 97, 98) being opposed to fixed rolls (95, 91, 92, respectively). Back-up rolls (115, 116, 117, 118, 121, 130) are provided for the floating rolls and pressure devices (180, 181) urge the floating rolls against the stock and in turn against fixed rolls to form the desired reference planes, thus enabling complex shapes to be roll formed from the variable thickness stock.
|
