Use of benzodionones in augmenting or enhancing the aroma and taste of a foodstuff

Described are the bicyclic compounds having the generic structure: <IMAGE> (Z is benzo or cyclohexano) and compositions containing same for use in augmenting or enhancing the aroma and/or taste of foodstuffs, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products. These compounds produce in foodstuffs, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products having a sweet, green, fruity, coumarinic, marzipan-like aroma and taste.
