SUBMERSIBLE AERATOR

SUBMERSIBLE AERATOR A submersible aerator comprising a motor having a housing and an output shaft and an aerator housing mounted on the motor housing and surrounding a portion of the shaft. The motor and aerator housing are mounted such that the aerator housing is vertically below the motor. The aerator housing has a lower exposed surface and an impeller is mounted on the lower end of the shaft. The impeller has a plurality of spiral vanes closely spaced to the lower surface of the aerator housing. The aerator housing has a cavity defining an annular space surrounding a portion of the shaft within said aerator housing, and an annular opening extending axially from the annular space to the lower surface of the aerator housing. The aerator housing has a generally radial passage extending from the exterior thereof to the annular space. The radial passage is connected by a pipe such that air can be supplied from above the liquid in which the submersible aerator is positioned. Upon rotation of said impeller, air is drawn through the radial inlet to the annular space and thereafter axially through the annular opening but the liquid does not enter the area of the annular space. -i-
