A profiled housing rail for a vertically slidable window of a motor vehicle consists of an upwardly open channel profile section (16) in which the lower edge (14) of a window glass (6) is seated. The lower region of the profile section (16) is extended downwardly in the form of a laterally open, generally channel shaped profile part (12) in which the sliding elements (10) of a window operating means (7) are guided. The interior of the web wall (17) of the profile part (12) is enlarged by a longitudinal bulge (18) reducing sliding contact between the interior of the profile part (12) and the sliding elements (10). The housing rail is preferably a single extrusion of for example, aluminium and the profile section (16) may have an external drainage gutter or gully (19).
