Isolated double bonds in homopolymers and/or copolymers of 1,3-dienes, preferably in polybutadienes having molecular weights (Mn) of 500 to 20,000, are subjected to isomerisation to give conjugated double bonds, by means of an alkali metal alcoholate, preferably the sodium and/or potassium salt of a monohydric cycloaliphatic or aliphatic alcohol containing up to 20 carbon atoms, if appropriate in the presence of a solvent. Preferably, the isomerisation is either carried out at a temperature from + 50 to + 250 DEG C or carried out in the presence in addition of a strongly polar aprotic compound such as dimethyl sulphoxide, dimethylformamide or N-methyl-pyrrolidone at a temperature from 0 to 150 DEG C. |
