<p>The switch is used to connect the interior light of a motor vehicle, or any other of its electrical accessories, to earth when a door is opened. It consists of a tubular casing, inside which a push-rod travels lengthwise against the action of a spring between an operative and a released position. The switch has a mounting collar with a through hole. One contact extends along the side of the switch from front to rear, while the other is located at the extreme end of the switch and consists of a plate which is perpendicular to the push rod axis and located outside the switch chamber. The push rod causes the two contacts to break when in its operative position due to the door being closed. When the contacts make, on opening the door, the earth circuit of the lamp is completed via the switch mounting collar, and the lamp is energised.</p> |
