PURPOSE:A multilayer hallow fiber having improved water and moisture absorption and durability thereof, with a slight deterioration in strength, obtained by composite spinning of (A) a porous polyester component having partly communicated micropores which are uniformly distributed and (B) a solid polyester component into a specific hollow fiber. CONSTITUTION:A side-by-side hollow fiber consisting of (A) a polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate, comprising 0.01-40wt% (a) a metal salt of an organis sulfonic acid, and (B) a polyester free from (a). The fiber is produced by treating a hollow fiber, wherein polyester A is divided into two or more layers oriented in the fiber axis direction by (B), and the layers (A) partly reach the hollow part C with the total cross-sectional area of (A) occupying 5-70% of the whole cross section except (C), with an alkaline aqueous solution to elute at least part of the component (a) and to form micropores communicated in the fiber axis direction. |
