Two-way transmission of control signals, e.g. for remote control of I.C. engine-driven generators, takes place between a central and N identical remote units, connected in cascade on an N-wire cable. Each remote station contains N send/receivers, each capable of sending or receiving one of N different messages, e.g. 1 to N pulses, and each connected to one of the wires. Within each remote station, the N wires are cyclically transposed between input and output. Thus, each path through the cable is connected to a different input terminal and hence to a different send/receiver, in each remote station. The central unit can send a particular message to a particular remote station by sending it on the appropriate wire. It can identify which remote station has sent a particular signal by which wire it arrives on.
|
