Self-cleaning coating compsn. for application to cooker surfaces, which can become soiled with cooking residues, contains a metal and/or metal oxide oxidn. catalyst (I) and a binder (II), which binds the (I) particles to one another and to the surfaces. The novel feature is that the compsn. also contains a polymerisation inhibitor (III) for oil and fat and pref. also an inert inorganic filler (IV). The addn. of (III) improves the effectiveness of the coating, so that oily dirt and other cooking residues are almost completely removed, even at temps. below 250 degrees C. (I) is pref. MnO2, Ni2O3, colloidal Pt or Pd on an inert support, MgCO3, CuO, V2O5, Cr2O3 and/or MoO3. (II) is a pure or modified silicone resin, alkali silicate, Al or Mg phosphate and/or enamel frit. (III) is Sb2O3, Al(OH)3, phosphate frit, bentonite, Li metasilicate, Li melt salt, Al2O3, talc, CaF2, NiO, Sn, Na aluminate, Al (meta)phosphate, powdered alkali glass, Al powder, Sb powder, NaF, CdSe, Zn powder, calcine Na, Li or K silicate and/or calcined Na2CO3. (IV) is SiO2 powder, CaCO3, TiO2 and/or mica powder.
