The clamp has two jaws constantly biased into the clamping position by spring biased levers. The clamp incorporates a switch for disconnecting the lifting motor if the clamp is inoperative and the operation of the clamp is prevented by a latch as long as the relative velocity of the cable is below a critical value. The latch is released by a control pulley rotating in accordance with this relative velocity, or by a manual release mechanism. The clamp block is pivoted between two side plates via the spring biased levers these being directly coupled to the load to allow the latter to be clamped to an auxiliary cable if the lifting cable breaks upon the critical velocity between the block and the lifting cable or the auxiliary cable being reached. |
