The balanced brake reaction system for an independent suspension has the damper strut (5) braced on the support arm (7) on a ball and socket joint (6) while the brake callipers (11) are mounted on a lever pivoted about the axle (2). One end of the support arm is linked to the lever by a strut (9) angled so that its line of action passes through the point (A) through which the wheel loading and the brake reaction pass. The reaction and load forces pass through the same joint and are balanced. This ensures that the lateral reaction force on the upper mounting of the wheel support is zero, enabling simple mountings to be used.
|
