PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a medicine for autonomic imbalance, etc., easily, in high yield, by the heat isomerization of a 24-methylenecycloaltanol organic acid ester or a composition containing the ester using iodine, etc. as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:24-Methylenecycloaltanol organic acid ester containing 24-methylenecycloaltanol ferulic acid ester which is a distillation residue of rice bran oil, or a composition containing the ester, is dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent, and isomerized at 46-110 deg.C in the presence of 0.1-300%, based on the raw material, of iodine or a mixture of iodine and an iodide. The objective compound is obtained in 30-80% yield. The organic acid is, e.g. acetic acid, butyric acid, isobutyric acid, palmitic acid, benzoic acid, etc. EFFECT:The scission of the cyclopropane ring and the decomposition of the ester at high temperature inherent to the conventional acid catalyst process can be avoided. |
