NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor and antimicrobial compound BBM-928A having the following properties: Soluble in CHCl3, etc.; slightly soluble in benzene, methanol, etc.; insoluble in water and n-hexane. Positive to the reaction with ferric chloride reagent; negative to the reaction with Tollens' reagent. Melting point 246-248 deg.C. [alpha]D<25>=-27 deg. (C=1, CHCl3). Molecular weight 1427. C, 52.47%; H, 5.48%; N, 13.81%; O, 28.24%. USE:An antitumor agent effective against P 388 leukemia transplanted to a mouse's abdominal cavity, L-1210 leukemia, B16 melanoma, Lewis lung carcinoma, sarcoma 180 ascite-tumor, a nourishment supply in an animal feed, and a remedy for microbism of mammals. PROCESS:An actinomyces G455-101 strain (FERM-P No.5460) is fermented in a Bristol Banyu collection to form the titled agent.
