NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is methyl group, and R2 is group NHCH3; or R1 is H, and R2 is group NHCH3), and its acid addition salt. USE:An antibiotic having a wide range of antibacterial spectrum, effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and useful as a starting substance for the synthesis of medicines, animal drugs and various derivatives. PROCESS:A bacterium, e.g. KC-7038 strain, which belongs to the genus Streptomyces and has the ability to produce substance KA-7038, is incubated by the ordinary culture method for actinomyces, and the filtered culture is adjusted to pH 7-9, and passed through a weakly acidic cation exchange resin, e.g. Amberlite IRC-50, to collect the substance KA-7038. The substance is then eluted with an alkali, freeze-dried and eluted by the concentration gradient method to afford the compound of formula I [KA-7038 VI (the compound of formula II) and KA-7038 VII (the compound of formula III)] as a free base. |
