PURPOSE: To miniaturize a device, so as to dispense with any space by stacking paper sheets discharged on a paper sheet placing surface through a process of making the phases of the ends differ from each other by group, and by taking out the taking-out directional end of the preceding phase under a state of the rear part holding condition of the group after the next phase and later. CONSTITUTION: The distance between regulating rollers 31a, 31b and a pressing roller 24 is adjusted to the size of a paper sheet +α. When a first paper sheet of a first document is fed, the paper sheet is fed onto a placing tray 18 by a deflecting roller pair 22, and the paper sheet tip is nipped by the regulating rollers 31a, 31b and stopped. Next, a second paper sheet is similarly fed, and a front unit 30 is moved backward together with a rear unit 20 by the deviation amount during the conveyance, so as to house the second paper sheet. Thus, the paper sheets to the n-th paper sheet are continuously housed. The front and rear units 30, 20 are returned to the HP, and the paper sheet of the n-th document is housed. The first document of all documents is nipped by the regulating rollers 31a, 31b, and the second document and the following documents are pressed to the placing tray 18 by the pressing roller 24, and discharging of the paper sheets is repeated by the regulating rollers 31a, 31b.
