PURPOSE:To produce high concn. CO by a simple and economical means by reacting a carbonate with a carbonaceous substance while keeping the carbonate at a molten state or a semimolten state to remarkably raise the reaction rate. CONSTITUTION:A carbonate, e.g., an Na2CO3-CaCO3 mixture kept at a molten state or a semimolten state, preferably at about 900 deg.C or below is reacted with a carbonaceous substance such as finely powdered coal to produce CO. When the Na2CO3-CaCO3 mixture is used, it is kept at about 600-900 deg.C. By this method a remarkably high reaction rate is obtd. at such a low reaction temp. as compared to a conventional method of reacting C and CO2. |
