PURPOSE: To make it possible to sufficiently read out a bar code on a separated position by clearly forming a sufficiently large image for the bar code on an image pickup element. CONSTITUTION: Since the concave face of a concave reflector 32 reflects light radiated from a bar code 8 to the side of an image forming lens 34, an angle of view is narrowed and a range ofΔdl is formed on an optical sensor 36. Respective bars of the bar code 8 are thereby expanded toΔd0/Δd1 and formed on the sensor 36 as an image. Even when the bar code 8 is separated from an optical information reader, a state that the image formation of respective bars of the bar code 8 is more than the resolution of the sensor 36 can be maintained and the contents of the bar code 8 can be accurately read out. Thereby the bar code 8 can be read out even without approaching a bar code reader 4 to the bar code 8 and the efficiency of reading operation can be improved.
