PURPOSE:To provide an asphalt compsn. which is suitable for use in pavement and in which the softening point is enhanced to reduce the release of an aggregate and flowability at a high temperature, by a method wherein a rosin ester obtd. by reacting a rosin with a polyhydric alcohol in the presence of MgO is blended with an asphalt. CONSTITUTION:A rosin (e.g. gum rosin, wood rosin) is reacted with a polyhydric alcohol in the presence of 0.05-5wt% (based on the wt. of the rosin) of MgO to obtain a rosin ester. 0.05-20wt% of the rosin ester is blended with an asphalt to obtain the desired compsn. If necessary, a thermoplastic resin, such as a ethylene- vinyl acetate copolymer or polypropylene, may be incorporated into the compsn. EFFECT:The compsn. excels in workability and forms pavement with less break at a low temperature. USE:Undercoating for automobile, and waterproof compsn. |
