PURPOSE:To selectively remove arsenic from lead containing tin and arsenic without requiring a special apparatus and enhance the yield of tin by melting the lead; adding metallic iron and metallic copper; and agitating them to separate the arsenic as iron arsenide and copper arsenide. CONSTITUTION:Dross is separated from crude lead obtd. from an electric furnace in a process of treating flue and ashes from a copper converter, and the resulting lead contg. tin and arsenic is melted. Metallic iron and metallic copper are added to the molten lead and agitated to convert the arsenic into iron arsenide and copper arsenide, which are then allowed to float to the molten metal surface and separated. Thus, the arsenic alone contained in the lead is selectively removed to considerably enhance the actual yield of tin.
|
