1406180 Microbiological testing device MILES LABORATORIES Inc 30 March 1973 [26 April 1972] 15544/73 Heading C6F A device for microbiological testing consists essentially of an absorbent web 20, Fig. 2, of paper, cloth or wood, and a substantially dry, continuous layer 22 of a gel in laminar relationship, the web and gel layer being joined by a continuous interface 21 which is integral with both the web and gel layer, the web surface being impregnated with the gel. One or more overlayers of gel 23 may be deposited on the initial layer of gel. Gels: gelatine and/or agar, and mixtures thereof with cellulose gums, albumins, alginates, carrageens, polysaccharides or polypeptides (also foetal calf serum). The web (and layers of gel) may contain specified microbiological nutrient media, suspending agents (in the web), background dyes and colour indicators. The laminated structures may be mounted in the wells 18 of a plastic base member 10, Figs. 1 and 2. Alternatively, individual laminated structures may be enclosed in a transparent plastics envelope 32, Fig. 7, which is heat-sealed at one end 40 and provided with an interlocking seal lip (not shown) at the other. |
