An apparatus for feeding a bandsaw blade into a workpiece at a constant rate comprises a motor 37 for feeding the blade. An angle detector 43 determines the angular position of the blade with respect to the workpiece M and relays this information to a register 49. Using the same information together with data on the shape and size of the workpiece and the optimum cutting rate for the workpiece material, a computing unit 51 calculates the desired angular position of the blade. This is stored in another register 57. A comparator 53 compares the actual and desired angular positions and gives a signal to a motor controller 55 to adjust the actual angular position, if not at the desired angular position, so as to feed the blade into the workpiece M at the optimum cutting rate. <IMAGE> |
