The guidance system for blind persons uses strips located in the ground which permit the person's cane to slide along a groove running along the strip. Information regarding the immediate location is provided along with the groove, in the forms of indentations into which the blind person places the tip of his cane. Alternatively, the surface of the strip may be modified to resist movement of the cane, or to affect the person's foot movements. The strip is of elongated rectangular section, one edge of which contains a groove. The encoded information to be read by the tip of the cane is formed in the upper resilient surface of the strip, or in the groove. The surface of the strip may be roughened by forming irregularities in the required areas.
|
