<p>A thermoplastic moulding compsn. with a reduced content of volatiles contains (a) a polycarbonate, and (b) an entraining agent for volatiles, consisting of (i) monochlorobenzene, (ii) a polyfunctional material and/or (iii) an aq. soln. of a polyfunctional material. The polycarbonate esp. has repeating units of formula R-CXY-R-O-CO-O-, where R is a phenylene gp., opt. halogen- or alkyl-substd.; and X and Y are H, hydrocarbon gps. free from aliphatic double bonds, and/or together with the C atom form a cycloalkane gp.; the total C atoms in X and Y is not >12. The polycarbonate is pref. derived from bisphenol A and COCl2, has 100-400 repeating units and has intrinsic viscosity 0.2-1 (0.25-0.6) at 20 degrees C in CH2Cl2. The polymer may contain 1-60 (5-40) pts. wt. of a reinforcing agent, partic. glass fibres of dia. 0.00285-0.0195 mm. The amts. of entraining agent are 0.1-10 (0.1-5) wt. % if added before extrusion, or 0.1wt. % if added after extrusion. The claimed cpds. are glycerol, ethylene glycol, propane 1,2-diol, (pref.) butane 1,4-diol, polyethylene glycol and/or polypropylene glycol. The aq. solns. contain 5-50 (10-25) vol.% of the polyfunctional cpd., esp. 16% of propane 1,2-diol. The compsn. may also contain a flameproofing agent.</p> |
