The post is produced with a lower section (1), which is sharpened to a point and designed to be inserted into the ground (3) and is designated as the underground section, and an upper section (5), which lies above the ground. The lower part of the post is covered with a sleeve (7) manufactured from a rot proof plastics material. The part of the post covered by the sleeve has a smaller diameter than the rest of the post and is designed to present a shoulder (9) and the sleeve is pushed on to the lower part of the post, using the shoulder as a stop. The point of the post is not covered by the sleeve but is protected by a hardening treatment.
