Thermionic converter arrangement for conversion of radiant energy into electric energy. The converter 24 included in the arrangement is provided with cathode and anode element 30, 31 very close to each other arranged in a vacuum in order to reduce the space charge build-up to a minimum and optimise the electron passage from cathode to anode. The materials chosen to achieve high operating point are a cathode with high melting point, such as tungsten with a working point of 4.52 V, and an anode with a relatively low working point, such as a silver oxide substrate with a cesium coating as the anode front, which is arranged on a heat transfer agent of copper, wherein a working point of 0.75 V is obtained at the anode front.
