The handle for a cooking utensil, such as frying pan, is removable when not in use, and incorporates, between the handle (1), and the pan (2), a hinge (7) onto which the handle (1) is fitted. The pan side (4) has a flange (6) which is open underneath, with support edges (12). The hinge (7) is fixed to the flange (6). The support edges prevent the pan section (2) from detaching itself. A locking mechanism consists of a sprung steel blade (9) inside the hollow handle (1).
